Read full description of the books:

Once upon a time I walked into an antique store. And once upon that time it happened to have an entire room filled with books. Also upon that time I managed to go through the entire room. And lastly upon that time I happened to find only one book that I wanted in the whole entire room.

And that book was marked ‘FREE’.

I felt very terrible that I had dug through shelves and shelves of books and only found one that I wanted, one that I would have been willing to pay money for, but which was free. However, the owner of the store was very gracious and allowed me to walk out without buying anything else.

So, all of that to say, THIS BOOK WAS FREE.

And I’m super duper glad I found it, because it was written by Margaret Davidson, author of The Adventures of George Washington and The Story of Benjamin Franklin, and has the same simple-but-informative style to it. We meet Edison when he is a very young boy, scorned by his teachers and conducting all sorts of wild experiments on goose eggs, but all around indefatigable in his pursuit of knowledge and industry. What struck me most in this biography, actually, was exactly that character quality of Tom’s – he was indefatigable. He first sought employment at the age of 12 so that he would have money to conduct his experiments and never stoped working until the day he died, long after his fortune had been established. Although he could have ended the long years of labor and have rested on his laurels (which were considerable) he was instead driven to continue working, to continue inventing, to continue pouring himself into his world.

And I found this bloody inspiring.

Conclusion. An excellent introduction to a solid historical figure.
